Telco closet applications present unique challenges. Space is limited. Products must mount to a backboard. Yet signal delivery and other required functions are absolutely critical to the performance of the network. This video details Telect’s comprehensive range of products, systems and solutions optimized for telco closet/backboard applications. For fiber optic demarcation, for example, Telect provides wall-mount patch panels with separate lockable compartments for customer and provider fiber. Multifunctional connectivity panels enable DSX-1, DSX-3, optical and Ethernet patching in a single compact unit, providing ample capacity in typical low circuit count applications without sacrificing space. For service delivery, Telect wall-mount media converters deliver DS3 or Ethernet signals to different floors or locations over fiber, eliminating the distance and performance issues of copper cabling. Telect’s Ethernet service delivery platform includes a wall-mount Gigabit Ethernet access switch and associated Category 5e patch panels, all in a footprint that’s ideal for backboards. Finally, Telect’s unique wall-mount GMT fuse panel is compact and lightweight, with just a 2-inch depth to fit in any closet environment. CableLinks(r) articulating cable management links provide a flexible solution any application. All of these products, systems and solutions are available today from Telect.

Centurylink (left) wired 20mbps vs Comcast (right) wireless 12mbps I decided to give Centurylink FIber Internet a try. After having it installed, I immediately started to test it out. I instantly noticed that web page loads felt slower. I have gone to numerous speedtest services, and typically pull down 5mbps. Centurylink guarantees that I will have a download speed no lower that 19.5mbps… I am going to do a few more tests this evening, but as of now, Centurylink’s days are numbered

Contractors and freelancers working from remote locations need better broadband access. That’s the advice from one expert. Madeline Bennett, editor at V3.co.uk says “It is important to find some funding in the long-term for rural access, but I’d say only if there is a genuine business case for it”. Ms Bennett also recommended urban areas have comprehensive coverage for all web users. Poor broadband access can have a detrimental effect on the business of freelancers and contractors working from home. One village in Rutland, however, has taken matters into its own hands this week. Having seen the big telecoms companies refuse to provide a fibre optic connection, the people of the village of Lyddington have joined together to build their own cable network. If you want advice on using broadband to enhance your business, the team at Excellium Umbrella is happy to help.
